This market situated at center of the City is a historic building constructed at the time of Portuguese era around 1879. The said market is very famous market since from its build till now and is the Heart of Daman Municipal Council.

On 19 December 1961 after the liberation from the Portuguese rule for the first time in Daman, the municipal council was formed in 1970, since then elections are held and the chief selects all the councilors together."
